In 2002, Alistagen received an EPA registration for use of its active ingredient in formulation of coating paints products for surface applications. In 2003, the Company received an EPA registration for the use of its active ingredient in coatings that can be applied in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) applications such as HVAC sheet metal ductwork, and for other parts of the HVAC system. The Caliwel™ with BNA Antimicrobial Coating line is available in ten standard colors and custom colors. Custom colors are available upon request.

Existing technology applications

Alistagen's industrial and consumer products are targeted at the architectural coatings, specialty coatings and OEM markets, providing multi-faceted, effective anti-microbial protection for inhibiting odor-causing and discoloring microorganisms that grow upon surface coatings, making it suitable for use in hospitals, outpatient clinics and nursing homes, in industrial and residential buildings, government and military facilities, and in educational and hospitality institutions. In addition, BNA coatings can be applied as finishes for new and already installed HVAC ductwork, kitchen cabinets and office furniture.

Medical Applications

Potential medical uses include anti-fungal nail treatment, wound care (bandages and adhesives), dental treatments, topical applications, prosthetic dentures and dental restoratives. Acrylate polymers tolerate significant levels of calcium hydroxide as filler and offer long-term, anti-microbial protection.

Calcium hydroxide is one of the oldest known and utilized anti-microbial agents, which has the natural ability to destroy microorganisms and is well suitable for general use around people and animals. The mechanism of the attack on microbes (enzyme denaturalization and incapacitation) is rapidly reversible when applied to animal tissue but not to microbes.

Caliwel™ with BNA antimicrobial compound as an antimicrobial additive could be incorporated into many materials to impart antimicrobial activity to protect the surface of the manufactured products. Caliwel™ with BNA antimicrobial compound prevents the growth of odor-causing and discoloring bacteria, algae, fungus, mold, and mildew.
